15 Jan Light the Fire
Yes. It’s still up. But that’s not the reason for this message. It’s the fire. This picture would look so different if the fire was not ablaze with flames. It would be dull. Uninspiring. Uninviting. Just like us. • Romans 8:11-13 tells us “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
As believers, it’s easy to walk around like a dead fire where obligations and emotions can steal our joy. Even though we have access to the fire of the Holy Spirit living INSIDE of us, we try to live life in our own power and some how believe we can earn this right to be a child of God. But this verse, combined with my picture this morning, is telling me something different. I, too, have an obligation. Jesus Christ lives IN ME and everyday I have the opportunity to light the fire of the Holy Spirit to receive wisdom, counsel, and direction. I am free from sin but that doesn’t mean it’s not there to trip me up, think bad thoughts, or try to live on the fumes of my own abilities.
Today, let’s light the fire and follow the lead of the Holy Spirit that gives us life. Open up your Bibles, memorize Scripture, pray, and fellowship with others who believe.
And for heaven’s sake … if your Christmas decorations are still up, enjoy them by the fire!
